Okinawa consists of a number of small islands and is largely composed of coral rock, and the rainwater filtering through that coral caused the island to develop many caves. The extensive limestone cave in the southern part of Okinawa's main island is known as Gyokusedo. The temperatures of Okinawa for most of the year are above 20 °C (68 °F). Rare blue corals can be found off of Ishigaki and Miyako islands as are numerous species throughout the chain.
